The first thing you need to do to become a great hitter is to know your swing inside and out. If a hitter does not fully understand his swing it could take weeks to make the proper adjustment. Hitting is about knowledge and feel, and when a hitter does not know how his swing works and what his tenancies are it is then nearly impossible to make an adjustment. A good hitter can distinguish the feeling of right and wrong instantly and has enough knowledge to make quick adjustments under game conditions, allowing this hitter to advance to the next level. A great tool to get a hitter to understand his swing is video analysis. As I use two different high tech analysis programs I am able to show a hitter his major flaws in his swing, why he struggles on certain pitches and locations, and why he is not generating maximum bat speed that his body will allow.
Seeing is believing. When a hitter sees what he is doing and or compared to a hitter that displays proper swing sequence, the hitter will gain an understanding on what it is he needs to do and what it looks like, making it much easier to feel that part of his swing when working on it in the cage.
Most hitters “train blind” never seeing how their swing works and how a polishing swing works in comparisent to theirs. They can never paint the exact image in their mind on what it is they need to do. A hitter who trains blind has a much tougher time understanding the feel of his own swing.
